Becoming An RMA

An RMA or Registered Medical Assistant is a medical assistant who has met the requirements for and passed an exam if required that is offered by the Association of Medical Technologist (AMT). Becoming an RMA is a good step to advance your career. As a RMA you will have shown your commitment to your career by seeking out the certification. This will show your employer or prospective employers that you are a dedicated individual that intends to make a career out of the position. As an RMA you will be held to a higher standard and expected to perform in a efficient manner, with the ability to demonstrate your skills well in both clinical and office environments.

Registered Medical Assistant In order to qualify to become a Registered Medical Assistant you must meet a few simple requirements and also pass a exam if you are applying with only work experience and no formal training. The requirements to qualify are as follows, you must be either enrolled in or have completed a formal education program in medical assisting ,or have at least five years of on the job experience in the field. You must also be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent. If you meet the requirements you must then fill out an official document requesting certification including a small fee and then submit this document to AMT. If applying only with work experience without formal training you should have at least five years of experience to be considered eligible. You will also be required to show your current employers information and your previous employers information so that your work history can be verified. If you are required to take the exam you should not have to prepare to much considering the exam questions are all based off of areas of the job you should be familiar with after working in the field for at least five years.

After receiving recognition as an RMA and obtaining your certification you will stand out among many people in the medical assistant field. You will most likely start in a position with more responsibility than other entry level medical assistants without the extra training and certification. As a RMA you should try to set an example by being the best that you can in your job and try to encourage others to get certified to help them enhance their career opportunities. And be a good representative to the public and show that you earned the title of RMA and that you are a true professional.
